The ICOM's base model IC-706, first introduced in 1995, was upgraded with the IC-706 MK II (IC-706 Mark 2) model two years later. The MK II added more features and more power, with up to 20 Watt on 144 MHz band and the DSP module as optional equipment. The latest version IC-706 MK IIG (IC-706 Mark 2G) adds other features and capabilities as the 440 MHz band for a complete HF/VHF/UHF transceiver.

Even though I'm from Yaesu, I always wanted to have an IC-706, not 706MK2 or 706G, just the 706, and I was surprised with this little one. It makes itself heard and listens very well, I just couldn't enter FC of repeaters. I have the manual. That's for me. It has a lock, I am satisfied, it is excellent and comfortable. You have to remember that it is one of the first RTX, what is good is good...

Radio with few pretensions, but definitely excellent in terms of performance quality. Excellent reception thanks to a good antenna preamp that is able to recover even the weakest signals, greatly improving listening. The front panel separation kit that allows installation in the car is also very practical (as I did!).
