FT-450D

The current "450D" transceiver includes some features not offered with the original FT450 (ATU optional) and FT450AT that have been discontinued. Features now included are: 300Hz CW IF-filter, built-in ATU, illuminated key buttons, front-feet stand, dynamic microphone MH-31A8J.

FT-450 description :

The Yaesu FT-450D is a compact transceiver complete with an Automatic Antenna Tuner (ATU) weighing only 4kg. This lightweight package is designed to be used as a desktop radio or in portable applications. The FT450D can also be used car / mobile with the mobile bracket accessory (MMB-90). The rugged aluminum die-cast chassis with its quiet, thermostatically controlled cooling fan, provides a solid foundation for the 100 Watts push-pull power amplifier (with RDF100HHF1 MOSFET) on all HF bands (1.8 to 29.7 MHz) plus the low-VHF band (50 MHz). The Yaesu FT450D IF-Width and IF-Shift features are the primary tools for best interference reduction, the IF-Contour control may also yield additional signal-enhancement benefits on the net residual bandwidth. The Contour filtering system provides a gentle shaping of the IF pass-band to suppress or enhance particular frequency components, thus improving the sound and/or readability of a received signal. This DSP filter is a unique capability of the receiver, providing either Nulling or Peaking of tunable segments to suppress interference and/or excessive frequency components on an incoming signal. The amount of Nulling / Peaking and the bandwidth over which it is applied are adjustable via the Menu. Of-course, the IF-Notch filter may also be utilized in conjunction with the other filter systems to significant advantage.

A double conversion superheterodyne system with 8 band-pass filter for eliminate out of band strong interference. The RF amplifier with 2 x 2SK520 JFET, for high IP3, feed a 4-pole 10 kHz bandwidth roofing-filter in the 1° IF, just after the front-end mixer. This filter provides narrow-band selectivity to protect the following circuits. Then, the high performance DSP (400 MHz) at the 2° IF stage permits easy management of AGC, filters, noise reduction, for clear and quiet reception. The RF attenuator and preamplifier (IPO, Intercept Point Optimization) feature allow the operator to optimize the dynamic range window.

FT-450D IF shift/width control :

Independent fast IF SHIFT Control, vary the IF shift higher or lower for effective interference elimination. IF WIDTH Tuning, provides selectable IF passband widths to fight QRM (SSB 1.8 / 2.4 / 3.0 KHz, CW 300 / 500 Hz / 2.4 KHz).

FT-450D DSP :

The legendary Yaesu IF DSP (Digital Signal Processing) system, well regarded among top and world-class DX operators, is now available in an easy to operate package. The new IF DSP uses an Analog Devices ADSP-BF531 IC (Integrated Circuit), with high speed 16-bit, floating point architecture. Designed and programmed with the unique objective of "Enhanced Transmit Signal Quality" and "Advanced Receiving Interference Suppression". These features now come in one easy to operate HF & 50 MHz RTX, ideal for everyone, new licensee or serious DX operator.

FT-450D digital modes :

PSK, FSK, and Packet operation is easily accomplished on the FT-450D by connecting a TNC (Terminal Node Controller) to the transceiver, as in the illustration.

FT-450D TX features :

The 450D has a unique Digital Microphone Equalizer with to preset functions. The custom settings may be set to match your voice characteristics for maximum power and punch, designed for optimal DX operation. VOX operation is now controlled by the DSP system. Enjoy smooth and seamless Voice Operated TX/RX control with this latest technology. Two Voice Memories for SSB/AM/FM modes. Store up to Ten seconds of audio in each memory, for contesting and portable field operation. The DSP system now makes this feature easy to operate.

FT-450D automatic antenna tuner :

The transceiver's ATU (Automatic Antenna Tuner) includes 100 memories for quick tuning during field operation when using a folded dipole, etc. In addition, the Yaesu original and unique Antenna Tuning systems, such as the external ATU FC-40 or ATAS-120, are ready to be automatically operated with the FT-450D front panel controls.
