Multimode transceiver providing coverage of all HF / VHF / UHF amateur bands, including 4-meters band. The radio provides 100 Watts of power output on HF, and 50 Watts output on 144 MHz and 430 MHz. Satellite mode with cross-band full duplex operation and normal / reverse tracking. General coverage receiver with built-in low-noise preamplifiers, DSP filters / notch / noise reduction, 0.1 Hz tuning steps. Digital speech processor, CTCSS / DCS encode and decode, built-in CW electronic keyer with weight control, 1200 / 9600 bps PACKET ready. Shuttle jog tuning dial, blue display with dual frequency registers and digital metering. Ideated in Japan, year of introduction 1998.

Secondary coverage with 10 Watts power output only but high DC power consumption. The FT-847 C2 model has better RF band-pass filter for the 4-meters band.
With optional YF-115C filter.
Individually-optimized preamplifiers are provided for HF, 50, 144, 430 MHz. The FT-847 provides also the capability to deliver +12V/300mA via the 144/430 MHz antenna connectors for external preamplifiers.
Although the FT-847 was not designed for full-QSK operation, the minimum setting of 10 ms delay will be very close to full break-in performance.
