The Rohde & Schwarz EB510, whose design derives from the EB500 model (the latter mainly intended for VHF-UHF), is a monitoring receiver developed for identification of emissions for both civil and governmental users. The functions that it integrates are aimed at a professional user, this concerns both the characteristics and the repeatability of the performances that comply with ITU standards. The circuit configuration in the signal chain is a digital direct samplingtype with 16 bit ADC preceded by a preselector composed of a group of tunable band-pass filters placed in series with a fixed 32 MHz low-pass filter. As a practice for the scope of use, it can be controlled via the front panel and remote using a LAN line with SCPI command set.
The form factor of the selectivity filters is less than 1: 1.7 for attenuation ratios of 3/60 dB. The individual selectivity values are then available in 29 settings from a minimum of 100 Hz to a maximum of 5 MHz. The selection range is linked to the active mode as shown in the following table:
Mode / Selectivity | |
---|---|
CW, LSB, USB, ISB | 100 / 150 / 300 / 600 Hz 1 / 1.5 / 2.1 / 2.4 / 2.7 / 3.1 / 4 / 4.8 / 6 / 9 KHz |
AM, FM, PM | 100 / 150 / 300 / 600 Hz 1 / 1.5 / 2.1 / 2.4 / 2.7 / 3.1 / 4 / 4.8 / 6 / 9 / 12 / 15 / 30 / 50 / 120 / 150 / 250 / 300 / 500 / 800 KHz 1 / 1.25 / 1.5 / 2 / 5 MHz |
Among the significant functions present in the R&S EB510 we find the real-time display of the signals within an instantaneous bandwidth of 5 MHz with FFT resolution automatic or settable from 0.625 Hz to 2 MHz. Display of the scan spectrum analyzer extended to the whole 32 MHz tuning range. Cascade spectrogram to observe the trend of the signals as a function of time and frequency. Acquisition for recording and post-analysis of signals using GX430 software. Reading of the intensity of the received signal with a resolution of 0.1 dB and peak meter, average, RMS value. Timestamps function to give a time reference to the data & acquired recording.
Moreover. BFO adjustable within ± 8 kHz. AFC function for frequency control. Adjustable RF gain control in 1 dB steps. Audio notch filter, band-pass audio filter, FM audio de-emphasis function, DNR function for adaptive digital noise reduction. Parallel processing on independent paths of tuned signals and spectrum analyzer with freedom to define bandwidths and center frequency. Flow of demodulated data available in output in the in-phase and quadrature format (I Q). Frequency scans on defined limits or between memories with speeds up to 1600 channels per second. Possibility of having four independent receivers (EB510-DDC option) within the instantaneous bandwidth, each with different frequency, selectivity, mode, squelch level. 10 MHz signal input as reference frequency for all internal circuits.
EB510 performance and practical notes :
Using the EB510-Control software the EB510 receiver allows to show, memorize, reproduce, the spectrum and the cascading spectrogram of what is tuned within a maximum 5 MHz band. This possibility satisfies the analysis requirements that allow the monitoring of the most modern digital communication formats on HF that engage a wide range of frequencies. In addition, the Rohde & Schwarz EB510 offers a high sensitivity with an equally high dynamic range, as required by an instrument of this class.
