The ICOM IC-2730A (also ICOM IC-2730E) provides VHF/VHF, UHF/UHF simultaneous receive capability as well as VHF/UHF receive. Volume, squelch knobs and primary buttons are symmetrically laid out for each band. This ICOM mobile transceiver is, basically, the ID-5100A counterpart without D-STAR digital mode. The display size of the IC-2730 is 1.5 times larger than its predecessor, the IC-2720H. Frequency display and channel names are larger, and the white backlit provides higher contrast. The optional VS-3 Bluetooth headset can wirelessly control the transceiver with three programmable keys and a PTT button. It also provides VOX operation for hands-free communication.
- Built-in CTCSS and DTCS
The CTCSS and DTCS tones are built-in for stand-by and repeater access. The split tone function allows you to set CTCSS/DTCS tones separately for repeater uplink and downlink on channel basis.
- Wideband receiver
It covers 118-174 and 375-550 MHz. You will be able to listen to aviation, marine, weather channels and other utility communications.
- Memory channel content
All the following information can be entered into the memory channels: Operating frequency, Duplex direction (+ or -) and frequency offset, Memory name, Scan skip setting, Tuning step, Operating mode, Subaudible tone encoder & tone squelch or DTCS squelch ON/OFF, Subaudible tone frequency & tone squelch frequency or DTCS code with polarity, Memory bank.
- Easy controller mounting
The combination of the optional MBF1 suction cup mounting base and MBA5 bracket provides easy tilt / swivel adjustments. The large suction cup can be mounted on any flat surfaces and can be removed easily.
- HM-207 remote control microphone.
- CS-2730 Free download PC programming software.
- Versatile scanning capability.
- Squelch delay and squelch attenuator.
- Sub band auto mute function.
- Sub band busy beep function.
- Auto repeater functions (Depending on the transceiver version).
- Auto power off.
- Time-out-timer.
- 16 DTMF auto dial memories.
- Weather channel receive with weather alert (USA version only).
- CI-V remote control capability through the OPC-478UC cable.

IC-2730A review
Bong | May-4 2021 |
I have the opportunity to test an IC 2730A vis-a-vis with a Cignus UV 828. Both are dual-band and crossband repeat capable. I expected that the ICOM 2730 would have superior receiver but to my surprise, the CG828 has superior RX. Unbelievable but true. The CG 828, particularly the UHF side, could receive audio and signal with clarity but the IC 2730 could not even receive the signal more so the audio.
I sent the unit back to the authorized dealer for evaluation and the authorized distributor came up with a technical report that the RX of the unit is up to specifications. Could it be that the Cignus UV 828 be superior to that of ICOM or i just got a lemon unit?
