AR-6000 is a conventional receiver in the 25~6000 MHz band, with regard to the frequency conversion structure, while it is digital in the last IF for the filtering, demodulation and signal processing. Between 0.04~25 MHz, on the other hand, direct RF sampling technology is used with ADC for a pure SDR (Software Defined Radio) that guarantees remarkable performances. In addition to the conventional SSB / AM / FM modes the receiver can also acquire digital or impulsive emissions, even non-standard ones, to be sent to a PC by taking advantage of a I/Q (in phase and quadrature) output via USB port for broadband signals up to 1 MHz.
This AOR model is similar, but not the same, to the direct predecessor AR-5001D of which almost entirely inherits the functions and the front control panel. Refer to the latter for further details. The main change concerns the widening of the frequency coverage, extended to 6 GHz, which in fact makes the AR-6000 one of the few receivers able to tune a relevant portion of the microwaves. It should be noted that over 3150 MHz a downward block translation is adopted which is added to the three fixed conversions, in practice beyond the mentioned frequency value the core of the radio set always process signals between 50~1700 MHz.
AR-6000 other features :
IF filter bandwidth selection, CW pitch-control, noise-blanker, DNR, auto-notch filter, AFC (Automatic Frequency Control) in FM mode, IF-shift, RF attenuator, AGC time constant selection, squelch, DTMF decoder, CTCSS / DCS tone recognition. Multiple search functions with high speed scan up to 100 channels/second. Spectrum analyzer in FFT technology, purely digital and in real time. Digital audio recorder that allows you to keep track of the radio traffic listened by storing it in a standard SD-card.
AR-6000 performance and practical notes :
Undoubtedly the AR-6000 fits at the top as a reference device for demanding users, and at the same time offer a relative easy control interface. The use of an analog S-meter and the presence of only three rotary controls on the front panel goes in this direction. With regard to the areas of use, it should be noted that thanks to the wide coverage, and in combination with the I/Q output, it becomes possible to monitor some satellite radio services not accessible to other instruments. The last term is used to emphasize the nature of the receiver which, thanks to its characteristics and potential, makes it suitable for the needs of both the most advanced radio-enthusiasts and professional operators.
