The Uniden BC125AT scanner was developed for the North American market and its default settings make it possible to simplify the search and tuning of civil / mil aviation stations as well as PMR / amateur radio on the VHF and UHF MHz bands. Two predefined band-plan for the BC125AT, one for the United States and one for Canada, which associate the tuning step and the operating mode with defined frequency ranges. In the profile for Canada, for example we have: on 25-28 MHz (CB and outbander) the 5 KHz step and the AM mode, on 28-54 MHz (amateur) the 5 KHz step and the NFM mode, on 108-137 (civil aviation) the 8.333 KHz step and the AM mode, on 137-174 MHz (amateur radio and PMR) the 5 KHz step and the NFM mode, on 225-380 (military aviation) the 12.5 KHz step and AM mode, on 400512 MHz (amateur and PMR) the 6.25 KHz step and the NFM mode.
It should be added that the usage settings for the AM or FM-narrow mode can also be freely selected by disengaging from the active band-plan.
BC125AT other features :
Triple frequency conversion circuit, RF detector function that allows you to identify the frequency of the strongest transmission within the operating bands, 500 memories divided into banks, label up to 16 characters to name the channels, charger included when using NiMH cells and external power supply, interfacing with a PC via USB port. The rotary control on the upper side of the BC-125-AT performs a multiple function, allows you to move between selections and menu options, between channels, adjust the volume, set the squelch intervention level. The device has a 64 x 128 pixel matrix LCD.
BC125AT performance and practical notes :
This Uniden-Bearcat scanner has good sensitivity and although the coverage has interruptions in the V/UHF segments the band for aviation traffic are fully available. It is in this context that the BC125AT proves to be particularly indicated. The default settings for the remaining bands are in fact in agreement with USA/Canada reality, not with European steps, even if it must be said that this limit originates a maximum tuning error of 2.5 KHz. To underline the high scanning speed, up to 300 channels per second, which makes it effective in searching for active frequencies.
