The Yaesu FT950 has 0.03~56 MHz general coverage receive capability and utilizes DSP filtering incorporating features as variable bandwidth, IF shift, passband contour tuning, digital noise reduction, manual / auto notch, noise blanker. On the transmit side a three-band parametric microphone equalizer allows precise and flexible adjustment of the waveform created by operator voice. A few other features: Multi function meter for signal strenght, output RF power, ALC, SWR, final amplifier drain current, final amplifier drain voltage, speech compressor level. Block diagram display, from antenna to AGC. Graphic indicates together the contour filter, notch filter, width, shift. The Yaesu FT-950 utilizes a triple band-stack VFO selection technique, which permits to store up to three favorite frequencies and modes onto each band register. CW tuning offset indicator. Split-frequency operation. Repeater operation, also with CTCSS tone. 118 menu item for extensive customization.

FT-950 review

I just got a Yaesu FT950 used from a friend, and the receiver is great. Got it cheap because some of the features on it don't work, but it seems to have transmit and receive capability. Hopefully, I can get the other stuff to work. It is NOT operator error either. The features themselves are not operating no matter how much I push buttons, etc. All the functions controlled by knobs are fine. I suspect some of the computer circuitry in the rig may be fried but I still have a manually tunable transceiver. I'm eager to see what this thing does once the CPU circuitry is repaired or replaced. Wish I could find a schematic somewhere!

Excellent receiver, plus great transmit sound! After all, the receiver is the most important part of your rig. Can't work 'em if you can't hear 'em - and the FT950's rx has that rare combination of great sensitivity, great selectivity, great 3rd-order intercept, great intermod rejection, and great blocking dynamic range - which is typically only found in high-end rigs!

The FT-950 is probably the best non waterfall HF rig on the used market. It's easy to learn and the sound quality is superb. It is my go to rig for DX'ing.

Excellent rig the Yaesu FT950, a soft receiver - not squeaky as you hear from some more expensive systems. Impeccable modulation, parametric settings and DSP filters, the only thing: you get lost a bit in the menu and you have to read a bit to understand how to make the optimal settings. Excellent in CW.

One of the best values on the second-hand market. With the internal IF out, it is easy to add a Panadapter. The CS button can easily be assigned to control power output. Very good and fast remote control (look for FT2000RC). Poor tuner implementation. Roofing filters require some rework to become useful.

Transceiver with a remarkable quality / price ratio. With 650 euros (it is also in second-hand offer at this price), there is an excellent radio, with the only most drawback related to the lack of continuous power control in the front panel.

Decent radio with good value for money at the current used market price. Large feature set, good ergonomics. Tuner is slow, loud and has small range. Roofing filters are a tad too wide.
