The FT-1000 is the fruit of over 25.000 man-hours of intensive research and development by Yaesu's top design engineers. Instead of offering incremental improvements on existing designs the project involves a wholly new approach to the application of the digital and RF technologies to most demanding needs of the HF bands. The transceiver, first introduced in 1990, was upgraded with the FT-1000D model which have the following options included: BFP-1 (band pass filter module), TCXO-1 (high stability TCXO), and high-quality crystal filters in the 3rd IF. The FT-1000MP, year 1996, as the second generation of the series featuring a highly-effective Enhanced Digital Signal Processing (EDSP) technology for a new level of selectivity and noise reduction. The power output was reduced from 200 to 100 Watts, the weight was also reduced from 25 to 15kg. The FT-1000MP Mark V, introduced in 2000, building on the success of the FT-1000D/MP elite-class transceivers brings five new developments: 200 Watts PEP transmitter output, class-A PA operation, interlocked digital bandwidth tracking system, variable RF front-end filter, and enhanced ergonomics with multi-function Shuttle Jog dial. The FT-1000MP Mark V Field, year 2002, brings all this technology in a 100 Watts self-contained transceiver. A high-performance, all-in-one design. For those who want the very best at home, for field-day or on a DX-pedition, using AC or DC power sources.

FT-1000MP review
IZ6BYL | 16 October 2024 |
The FT-1000MP in question, despite having more than a couple of decades behind it, continues to have its own reason, within those types of users (including me) who prefer analog functions not managed exclusively by menus or touch screens and who see in the softness of listening, in a beautiful sound and in an aesthetics of a fascinating basic device, fundamental characteristics of an RTX. To this must be added a price which currently for used equipment is around 800/900 euro, therefore affordable for many budgets. In short, like having a few-year-old supercar in the garage for the price of a small car. In conclusion, in almost 50 years of radio I think I have understood well how the antenna is the real discriminant on the quality of transmission/reception and how instead, for commercial needs and for individual characteristics linked to the need to always keep up with technological progress, many colleagues prefer to update their shack and their operating systems. Personally I prefer substance and quality, ingredients that the radio in question is full of.
