The RF-Space SDR-IQ is a direct sampling receiver that uses a 14-bit ADC and an AT91SAM7S256 processor from Atmel. It offers a wide range of possibilities for extended frequency coverage, starting from only 500 Hz and therefore suitable for VLF monitoring, as well as for spectrum analysis functions and signal demodulation options. The information flow of the ADC is processed by a digital converter (DDC) in order to obtain data in I/Q format to be sent to a PC via USB connection. All filtering and demodulation operations are assigned to the softwares, the latest version of SpectraVue (Moetronix) and SDR-Radio.
On the technical side, the receiver integrates a preamplifier, RF attenuators, and a filter bank in the front-end preselector. The applications include, besides the stand-alone apparatus function, the use combined with a second receiver or transceiver for which it performs Panadapter tasks by displaying the spectrum around the intermediate frequency (IF) value which can be freely set by the operator thus comprising standards such as 455 KHz, 8.83 MHz, 10.7 MHz, 21.4 MHz. From the PC you can record up to 196 KHz of the RF spectrum for delayed playback that uses AM, FM, SSB, DSB, CW demodulation by adjusting bandwidth and resolution of the FFT analysis between 2048 and 262144 points. The FFT is performed with a speed of 50 updates per second acting with a span (interval) of 190 KHz and BW (resolution) of 100 Hz. The following table shows the combination of frequency ranges, IQ data flow, and maximum resolution achievable:
Combination of frequency ranges | ||
---|---|---|
Span | I/Q data flow | Maximum resolution |
5 KHz | 8.138 Ksps | 0.031 Hz |
10 KHz | 16.276 Ksps | 0.062 Hz |
25 KHz | 37.792 Ksps | 0.14 Hz |
50 KHz | 55.555 Ksps | 0.21 Hz |
100 KHz | 111.111 Ksps | 0.42 Hz |
150 KHz | 158.730 Ksps | 0.61 Hz |
190 KHz | 196.078 Ksps | 0.75 Hz |
It should be mentioned that the SDR-IQ also has an RS232 serial port to directly interface other receivers, among these different Icom and AOR models such as IC-R8500, IC-R9000, IC-R9500, IC R7000, IC-R7100, AR-5000.
