The IC-2300H front panel layout includes a simple user interface, a large display with six alphanumeric characters offers a good viewing angle with amber, yellow or green backlight color. Ideal for any mobile operation. The transceiver can generate 65 Watt of output power, the rugged aluminum diecast provides effective heat dissipation and keeps RF output even during high duty cycle continuous transmission. Built-in is a current detector circuit which protects the power amplifier from excessive current flow. When excessive current flow is detected, the circuit automatically reduces the transmit output power to approximately 25 watts. The IC2300H has a thermal detector circuit too, which protects the power amplifier from excessive heat. As the temperature increases, the circuit automatically reduces the transmit output to approximately 10 to 20 watts. The IC2300 H is built tough to protect from a rough road. It has been tested to and has passed the MIL-STD 810G specifications including shock, vibration and temperature tests.
- Built-in CTCSS and DTCS
The CTCSS and DTCS tones are built-in for quiet stand-by and repeater access. The tone scan function detects the subaudible tone that is used for repeater access. The pocket beep function gives you an audible and visual indicator of an incoming call. The DTCS encoder function (DTCS transmit only) is also available.
- Scan functions
The radio supports various scan types (full scan, memory scan, programmed scan, scan resume function) for maximum reception and ease of use. The DMS (Dynamic Memory Scan) system allows you to scan selected banks from 10 memory banks by simply adding and deleting bank links.
- Squelch attenuator
The transceiver has an RF attenuator related to the squelch level setting. 20 dB of attenuation is obtained at the maximum setting.
- Output power
The radio has 4 output power levels (Low, Mid-Low, Mid, High) to suit your operating requirements. Lower output powers during short-distance communications will reduce current consumption.
- One-touch PTT function
The PTT switch can be operated as a one-touch PTT switch, each push switches between transmit and receive. Using this function you can transmit without holding down the PTT switch.
- Power supply voltage display.
- Wide/narrow channel setting.
- High 4.5 Watt loud audio.
- Audio mute function.
- DTMF autodial.
- Time-out timer.
- Repeater lockout.
- Automatic power off.
- Weather channel receive and alert function (USA version only).
- Automatic repeater function (USA version only).
- Monitor function.
- S-meter squelch.
- Selectable squelch delay from short and long.
- Squelch attenuator reduces suppression from strong signals.
- PC to transceiver and transceiver to transceiver cloning capability.

IC-2300H review
Don, KD9WJH | 28 February 2023 |
I've had this radio for only a couple of weeks, but I already love it. It's easy to program, has good sound, and with 65 Watts, really gets out there.

The Icom IC-2300 is a fantastic mobile radio, excellent receiver and great transmission modulation. Aesthetically beautiful and very easy to use, it is a pity that it is not very widespread in Italy since it is no longer found in various retailers. I have had one for four years and I wanted another one but nothing to do, however for me it remains the best mono-band currently on the market.
