Grundig Satellit description :

The Satellit by Eton / Grundig is a portable receiver, with limited weight and size, developed to find a place both in the home environment and alongside the demanding enthusiast offering SSB demodulation and synchronous AM for bands up to 30 MHz in addition to the coverage of the VHF range of 118~136 MHz reserved for aeronautical communications. Therefore, in AM mode, including the VHF band, you can choose between two selectivity values (narrow / wide) to optimize reception in the presence of interference on adjacent channels. The tuning is articulated: by rotary control, as by directly entry from the keyboard, by recalling a specific frequency from the memory, or by activating an automatic search. For the FM band the display shows the RDS data, you can choose to read four different data fields commonly associated with the name and type of the program as well as the radio station references.

Other features: stylus antenna for SW / FM / VHF bands and ferrite antenna for long and medium waves, input for external antenna, squelch function with threshold on 5 levels, bass / treble tone controls to adapt the audio response, sleep timer, clock, 4 independent alarms, battery indicator, built-in charger, audio input / output line connections, keyboard lock, 700 locations divided into hundred banks of 7 memories accessible directly from the keys associated on the front, possibility to assign a name up to 8 characters for each memory bank.

Grundig Satellit performance and practical notes :

Undeniably the manufacturer with this model has wanted to update the famous Satellit line, which over time has seen equipment of great value, pointing towards a more consumer style and less amateur radio. The result shows the lights and shadows of a receiver that is certainly interesting but not well balanced in some of its functions. The presence of the synchronous detector for the AM is appreciable, being able to select between the lower side band (SYNC-LSB) or the upper side band (SYNC-USB) proves useful in some circumstances to improve the listening performance in the short wave bands more crowded. To remain in AM mode the bandwidth on two values, narrow or wide, is another useful function, however, on the actual goodness of the form factor of the filters there are no unanimous opinions. In the narrow position the bandwidth is in fact indicated, nominally, as equal to 3 KHz but we do not have measurements that can confirm - for this reason we opted not to include the selectivity values in the technical specifications table. An eminently practical aspect concerns the SSB to which the fine tuning function is associated with +/- 99 steps.
