The Baofeng UV5R has seen two major changes from its first introduction with the 2nd generation being signified by new firmware in 2014. There are several variants from an aesthetic point of view of this two-way radio. These variants have no real differences from the UV-5R besides their cosmetic design. Variations include:
- UV-5Rv2+
- UV-5R2
- UV-5RA
- UV-5RE
- UV-5R+
Please note that some of these may also no longer work with case specific accessories such as the original batteries (BL-5). Other version, as the Baofeng-Misuta 5R, are crossover radio with enhancement of chipset.
UV-5R features :
Dual watch to monitor two channels (semi duplex mode) with different frequencies even on different bands, the radio will monitor both giving priority to the first incoming signal. FM broadcast band, while still monitoring your radio stations in the background any incoming call will be given priority switching on VHF/UHF channel. Squelch adjustable in 10 levels. Supports for CTCSS, DCS, and DTMF calling methods. Two RF power levels (High / low). VOX (Voice-activated transmission) function. Offset for frequency shift when communicating via a repeater. Transmitter time-out timer (TOT) and busy channel lock-out (BCLO). Tri-color display. Automatic power saving function, when the channel does not carry out any signal the battery energy saving is turned on. Flashlight. Optional PC03 FTDI programming cable.
