- Modes CW / LSB / USB inactive for the VFO B in dual-watch operation.
- VFO B may be usable on 225~336 MHz band although off-specification with reduced sensitivity.
- Referenced to sub receiver VFO B.
- Cellular blocked (824~850, 869~895 MHz) in the US, model DJ-X11EGR has some gaps to satisfy local legislation.

The Alinco DJ X11 is a scanner with many features, original in some respects. It operates in dualwatch, integrates two independent receivers that can be made active at the same time. The main section covers the entire tuning range from 50 KHz up to 1300 MHz, while the secondary section tunes a limited range of frequencies exclusively in AM, FM and WFM mode. In any case, the most relevant part of the VHF / UHF and the most used modulations are included. To simplify the frequency settings the receiver adopts two independent knobs on the top panel and both the active frequencies are shown on the display in two separate lines. The panoramic spectrum analyzer allows you to view the radio activity within two bands with the indication that appears on the display proportional to the intensity of the signals. Elements to underline are the availability, almost unique for a handheld receiver, of the signal tuned as output in I / Q format (in phase and quadrature) so to acquire the two components through the normal audio connections of a PC in order to process, demodulate and record any emissions. In addition, the FM discriminator signal is also available in output. Accessing the discriminator directly is important in monitoring digital data flows such as AIS maritime traffic. A frequency inversion scrambler decoder is also integrated. As can be seen, ample potential for the experimenters is offered.
Tone recognition (DCS) allows a stand-by reception while waiting for a signal with the correct tone while the display shows the code used by a given transmission. Beyond the flexible antenna a incorporated ferrite antenna improve the reception on Medium Waves. The unit has 1200 customizable memory locations with 16 alphanumeric characters. The structure allows to manage the storage space according to the choices. Several scanning options: between band limits, within the memories, on specific audio tones. The speed is selectable between 25, 33 or 100 channels / second in the VFO mode and between 4.5, 8.3 or 20 channels / second in the memory mode.
Other features: RF attenuator, frequency meter, RF-detector, synthesized voice (in English) to identify any pressed keys, keyboard with backlight, 35 hours of autonomy in FM and in single reception mode with active / stand-by ratio 1:4 and the use of alkaline batteries. The receiver also allows the control and the cloning of the memory contents from a PC, the software can be downloaded from the Alinco site while the interface cables are required as optional accessories.
DJ-X11 performance and practical notes :
The receiver demonstrates remarkable features both in the autonomous operation, with a sensitivity to the top for a handheld scanner, as in the combination with a PC in order to use the Alinco DJ X11 as a tuner and then filter and demodulate the signals through software. An application that sees this Alinco radio transform into an SDR receiver with multiple applications in advanced radio monitoring. Regarding spurious responses due to image frequencies a better than average behavior was observed, an appreciable factor and demonstration of an excellent RF project. However, we specify to the reader that tests have not been performed on the whole tuning field but only in limited segments of the VHF.

I've had it for 3 years and when I go to the mountains, to the sea, etc., it's always with me. I must say excellent deal for the price paid, 310 Euros.

Good sensitivity even in the HF bands that allows you to use the DJ-X11, with appropriate Mini-Whip antenna or replacing the standard antenna with a longer and more efficient, as a portable / pocketable receiver particularly enjoyable in both AM and SSB. The selectivity is not particularly high and in some cases is not sufficient. It can help by using the two High or Low audio filters, which can be inserted separately, in order to attenuate adjacent noise.
